Veteran-Made Film Competition
This competition allows teams of veterans to work together to create short films judged by industry professionals.
Our goal is for every team to have a portfolio-worthy piece that can be used to gain employment.
In my role as a leadership member at Hollywood Post 43 and a dedicated advocate for veterans, I spearheaded the creation of the Veteran-Made Film Competition. This groundbreaking initiative unites teams of veterans in crafting compelling short films within the iconic setting of the Hollywood American Legion clubhouse. These films undergo rigorous evaluation by industry experts and are showcased to an esteemed audience at the historic Hollywood Legion Theater.
Following the screenings, a prestigious awards ceremony, reminiscent of the Oscars, commences, recognizing outstanding achievements in categories such as acting, directing, and overall excellence. The primary objective of this competition is to empower participants to develop standout portfolio pieces, enhancing their prospects for employment opportunities.
As the visionary behind this venture and its executive producer, I assumed full responsibility for orchestrating every facet of the competition. This entailed crafting compelling calls for entries, curating participant selections, coordinating shooting locations, assembling a panel of esteemed judges, and overseeing the development of both digital and print promotional materials. Additionally, I took on the role of producer for the awards ceremony, serving as its master of ceremonies.
The Box Shop
Upon my recent arrival in San Francisco, I eagerly sought out opportunities to embark on a new project. It was during this exploration that I discovered the captivating Box Shop, owned by the talented artist Charles Gadeken. This dynamic maker space provided an ideal canvas for my camera and drone, serving as a rich visual playground for creative exploration.
I’m delighted to present this piece as my first since returning to the city.
Membership Moments
I had the privilege of collaborating with the Post and Membership Division, alongside Commission Chairman Matt Jabaut, to develop a series of comprehensive American Legion membership training videos. Tasked with distilling their vision into actionable content, I meticulously crafted scripts, executed the filming process, and edited each video to ensure clarity and effectiveness in delivering key messages.
Introduction of National Commander
I was entrusted with the pivotal responsibility of producing a video introducing the newly elected national commander of The American Legion, an organization boasting over 2 million members. This comprehensive project involved a multi-day shoot dedicated to capturing the essence of the incoming commander. Through meticulous planning and execution, the video artfully detailed his background, policy initiatives, and personal beliefs, serving as a crucial introduction to the membership before his official swearing-in ceremony at the national convention.
